ST CHRISTOPHER’S PLACE
As our first ever Christmas client perhaps it was no surprise that it was St Christopher’s Place who commissioned us to produce our very first place making design in 2010. The Gees Court entrance is almost hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street and so we were asked to create a point of difference to make it stand out.
We wanted to create an inspirational figurehead.
Drawing inspiration from a tradition of sculptures on neighbouring Oxford Street, we looked at the figurine of prima ballerina Darcey Bussell which sits above The Plaza Shopping Centre and The Queen of Time amid her Ship of Commerce that surmounts Selfridges.
Life size and made from thousands of reflective mirror mosaic tiles she is perfectly balanced on a giant glowing orb. Continuing along the passageway into the estate is a constellation of stainless steel spheres inspired by the work of Anish Kapoor. A miniature solar system of shining planets!
